Adaptive Buildings and Cities Initiative

The School of Architecture is currently seeking funding for an initiative that explores how the world's most life-enhancing natural and built environments have been designed, constructed, or managed in the past, and how these practices can be adapted to meet today's complex challenges. This initiative aims to advance urban, architectural, and environmental practices by improving the energy performance of buildings through advances in materials, construction science, and engineering. Additionally, we focus on transforming transportation planning, housing development, and land conservation to create more efficient alternatives to traditional sprawl.

Engaging with international partners and leveraging our presence in Rome, the initiative extends its reach globally, collaborating with communities in the Global South to align development with their unique cultures, climates, and needs. By fostering these global connections and applying our research, we aim to offer transformative design and policy solutions to some of the most pressing urban and environmental challenges of our time.
