POSITION SUMMARY: The City of South Bend’s Office of Sustainability seeks a Project Manager to support project implementation and play an integral role in developing and implementing the City’s climate change mitigation projects. The Project Manager will accelerate and augment progress to decarbonizing the built environment and the transportation system and may also support other sustainability projects. They will work closely with the Director of Sustainability and other staff within the Office of Sustainability team to develop the Office’s strategy, and they will take the lead in executing programs that help our community achieve its sustainability goals. The Project Manager will plan, direct, and coordinate projects that improve energy efficiency, increase renewable power, and boost clean transportation in the community.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May assist Director in direct supervision of sustainability interns and volunteers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan, organize, manage, participate in, and direct the work of projects within the Office of Sustainability’s portfolio including developing and implementing workplans, monitoring project budgets, managing contracts, and evaluating outcomes
Recommend, develop, and implement processes, systems, and projects that promote communication, mutual accountability, and improved outcomes for the Office of Sustainability
Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of initiatives
Manage and balance multiple partners’ needs and help them overcome obstacles
Assist with grant writing and tracking as needed
Plan and coordinate occasional events
Conduct policy research to identify best practices for addressing needs in South Bend
Collaborate with the Office of Sustainability team to prepare long-term mitigation and adaptation strategies in coordination with community stakeholders and work closely with them to incorporate input and solicit support
Support and lead projects, programs, and initiatives, such as energy savings for commercial and residential buildings, EV (Electric Vehicle) adoption and the expansion of EV infrastructure, and energy savings solutions for internal City operations
Performs other duties and assumes other responsibilities as apparent or as delegated
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in planning, environmental science, sustainability, sustainable business, engineering, public administration/policy, government, economics, social studies, or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred
Spanish proficiency preferred

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Experience and/or interest in sustainable energy and transportation preferred
Strong understanding of sustainability and resiliency theories and programs, as well as federal, state, and local policies and initiatives
Excellent project management skills
Demonstrated experience developing clear timelines and goals
Proven ability to solve problems creatively
Outstanding oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Experience and comfort in customer service preferred
High degree of comfort with stakeholder and change management
Experience developing collaborative and innovative approaches that improve outcomes
Excellent conflict resolution and facilitation skills
Ability to perform large-scale data collection, analysis, report design, and management to evaluate and improve outcomes
Able to work with sensitive information while using appropriate measures to safeguard privacy and handling sensitive situations appropriately
Demonstrated ability to work with efficiency, flexibility, humility, and good humor
Ability to function in an ambiguous, fast-moving, multi-stakeholder team-based environment
Comfortable working with Microsoft Office tools, especially PowerPoint and Excel, and learns new technologies easily
GIS (Geographic Information Systems) experience and web design experience a plus
