New concentration

Author: School of Architecture

In fall 2009, the School launched its fourth concentration, this one focusing on constructing architectural models and details. The Building Arts concentration is a four-course sequence developing a keen sense of detail and assembly. All courses involve team projects. The first part of the concentration spans two semesters. In it students research an historically significant building to produce authoritative drawings and build a detailed model at an appropriate scale. In the third and fourth semesters the team designs and builds a traditional architectural element such as a mantel piece, or a stair, newel post and balustrade assembly. The models and elements are slated to become part of the School’s permanent collection.
