Iberian summer

Author: School of Architecture

The School of Architecture will conduct a three-week summer program in Spain and Portugal from June 19-July 9. Open to all undergraduate and graduate students in architecture, the program will include stays in Sevilla, Granada, Cordoba, Evora, Lisbon, Loridos, Bacalhoa, and Sintra.

Led by Professors Michael Lykoudis, Samir Younés, José Cornélio da Silva, and 2010 Driehaus Prize winner Rafael Manzano Martos, the program will explore the rich architectural characteristics of the Iberian Peninsula.

The curriculum will include lectures, short design exercises, drawing and watercolor painting. Lectures will address the layers of urban composition, architectural composition, construction, ornament, materials, color, as well as natural landscapes and gardens. Lectures will be supplemented with visits to museums, galleries and archaeological sites. A typical day will include morning lectures, site visits, and afternoon drawing assignments. Evenings are free but will include Flamenco and Fado recitals.
