Brick industry honors Stroik

Professor Duncan Stroik received a 2010 Brick in Architecture Award from the Brick Industry Association. Stroik was honored in the education category for the St. Theresa Education Center in Sugar Land, Texas. Father Stephen Reynolds ’83, pastor of St. Theresa Parish, said "the design of our new school building reflects the nobility of purpose of what takes place within its walls. When students enter through the front doors each morning, they are reminded that their education is a profound and enriching enterprise."

The Saint Theresa Education Center, dedicated 2009, houses a K-8 school as well as serving the parishioners in their continuing Catholic education. Stroik designed the Education Center to respond to both the physical and cultural context of the region, creating a building that reflects the elegant brick structures in Houston, such as at Rice University. Multicolored local clay bricks and Indiana limestone were selected for the exterior of the Education Center for their beauty, lifespan, and regional aesthetic.
