Writing in The Chronicle of Higher Education, Notre Dame Learning’s Jim Lang argues that the current moment creates an opportunity for faculty to “commit more fully to shifting the balance of class time from first exposure to skills practice.”
For some instructors, this may mean deepening and enhancing existing active learning experiences they already provide in their classrooms. For others, it may mean enabling students to first encounter new concepts outside of class so that class time can be used for guided practice in skills such as reading, writing, coding, problem-solving, argumentation, interpretation, and analysis.
To support Notre Dame faculty interested in redesigning a course along these lines, Notre Dame Learning is pleased to offer Reimagining Class Time Grants for fall 2026.
This virtual info session will provide more details about the application process. The full call for proposals along with the application form itself are available on our Funding Opportunities page.
