Craig Brandt FAIA

Biography

Craig Brandt, FAIA, is an architect based in Chicago, Il, and adjunct professor at the University of Notre Dame. His teaching focuses on adaptive and regenerative design projects, most recently focusing on its symbiosis with “making” and industrial uses. His work on this topic is published in an upcoming book “Teaching Carbon Neutral Design in North America “published by Rutledge. His teaching also specializes in cross-disciplinary design processes in arts and design for which he teaches an elective “Figurative Design Systems” offered in both the School of Architecture and School of the Arts.

His award-winning practice work includes civic, government, higher education, and museum projects in various contexts. He has recently lectured, moderated, and presented his work internationally along with current issues in the public realm for the AIA Committee on Design, International Conference of Museums, as well as preservation issues for Docomomo US. He currently serves as the 2025 AIA Committee on Design Chair, a national AIA committee, and has produced 6 distinct programs on the AIAU platform. He has also taught urban planning and architectural design studio at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Architecture and Urban Planning.

Craig is a fellow of the American Institute of Architects, and an affiliated Fellow of the American Academy in Rome, awarded in 2001. In 2020, he was appointed as a national design peer to the General Service Administration (GSA) Design Excellence Program for his expertise in the design and execution of public architecture.
