Biography
Andrea is an alumna of the University of Notre Dame, where she received her Masters in Architectural Design and Urbanism (MADU) in 2019.
In her native Guatemala, Andrea practiced since 2014 as a licensed architect at Estudio Urbano, a firm that specializes in traditional architecture and urban planning, where she contributed to the design development of multiple projects of varying scales, including The New Town of Cayalá, an award-winning urban development designed by the town architects (and Notre Dame alumni) Pedro Pablo Godoy and Maria Fernanda Sanchez, in collaboration with Leon Krier.
Her collaboration in charrettes include multiple instances for the master plan of El Socorro, an extension of The New Town of Cayalá, where as part of Estudio Urbano, she worked alongside architects Leon Krier, Richard Economakis, John Griffin, Jamshid Sepehri and Steve Mouzon. More recently, she participated in a charrette for a regenerative master plan of Downtown Elkhart, IN, by Moule & Polyzoides, under the direction of Dean Stefanos Polyzoides and Vinayak Bharne.
She is currently engaged as an architectural designer at Richard Economakis Architectural Design (READ) in South Bend, which specializes in traditional architecture and design consulting. Aside from coordinating the schematic design of a recent 80,000 sqf project designed by Richard Economakis and soon to be realized in collaboration with the Chicago-based firm STANTEC, her work includes numerous architectural renderings for the forthcoming book by Prof. Economakis, Effigies in Stone: The Origin of Greek Architecture in 'Prop-and-Brace' Construction.
Andrea believes in mentorship, as she continues to build upon the knowledge and experience that she has acquired and aspires to share those values with new generations of architects and designers whose mission is to create better places for communities around the world.
