Thursday, September 29 - Saturday, October 1
on the campus of the University of Notre Dame
Organized by the University of Notre
Dame School of Architecture
and The Institute of Classical
Architecture and Classical America
The University of Notre Dame School of Architecture will host “Three Generations of Classical Architects: The Renewal of Modern Architecture” Sept. 29-Oct. 1. The conference will examine how classical and traditional architecture draws on the past to build a more sustainable and beautiful future. It begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29th in the Bond Hall auditorium with a keynote speech by noted classical architect Robert Adam, principal of Robert Adam Architects, London. Adam’s speech is free and open to the public. The conference, which costs $50 for Intern Architects and $100 for Practitioners, continues all day Friday and Saturday in the Annenberg Auditorium at Notre Dame’s Snite Museum of Art.
The School of Architecture teaches classical ideals because they represent the best of national, regional and local traditions in urban design and construction. Classical architecture refers not to a style, but to an approach that respects the past as it enhances the future. The conference will examine the historical context that drives modern classicists, the many views about what classical architecture entails, and how these ideas will shape the future of classical practice.
