The Driehaus Prize is awarded to an architect whose work embodies the principles of traditional and classical architecture in contemporary society.

Richmond Riverside Development, Surrey, UK (1984-87)
A large development with offices, apartments, restaurants and community
gardens, Richmond Riverside Development displays many of the rich features
commonly found in 18th-century English architecture such as red and
yellow bricks, plain tiles, slate and lead, sash and casement windows,
and all five of the Greek Orders of architecture (Doric, Ionic and Corinthian).
Two of the development’s buildings were retained and re-fronted,
but the rest of the buildings are new. The buildings were designed in
accordance with the Georgian requirement of there being 20 feet from
the window to the spine wall so they could function satisfactorily without
air-conditioning or excessive artificial light.
