Alumna Wins the Award for Emerging Excellence in the Classical Tradition

The School of Architecture congratulates alumna Cailin Shannon ‘08 who has been awarded the 2018 Award for Emerging Excellence in the Classical Tradition presented by the Institute for Classical Architecture and Art (ICAA), The Prince’s Foundation, and INTBAU.  Shannon, who is currently a Lead Designer at Opticos in Berkley, CA, is being honored for her exemplary application of traditional architectural practices and her dedication to creating a better built environment.

This is the second annual Award for Emerging Excellence in the Classical Tradition, in which submissions are open to young professionals internationally who display exceptional talent in classical and traditional architecture, landscape and interior design, building crafts, urban design and planning, and the allied arts.

After earning her B. Arch from Notre Dame, Shannon served as a Fulbright Program Student Researcher in Delhi and Ahmedabad, India and is currently completing a Master of Science in Architecture at the University of California, Berkeley.  In response to the award, Shannon said that she is “proud to help advance the ongoing tradition in creating meaningful places for human living.”

Unnamed 6Cailin contributed to master planning and architecture for a new mews project in Daybreak, UT, offering a walkable lifestyle attainable for many first-time homebuyers (Project completed with Opticos Design)

Cailin Shannon will receive a $2,500 cash prize and recognition at an award ceremony held in New York City in May 2018.
