The Architecture Library holds a very rare set of early 20th century Lantern Slides produced in France by G. Massiot & Cie that contain images of architecture and related material from all over Europe. Over 2,500 of these slides have been digitized and placed on Flickr. The set is historically significant as several of the buildings depicted were destroyed in conflict or have deteriorated.

The lantern slides contained brief information including country, city, and monument name. Additional information was researched by architecture graduate students and library staff. The Flickr community has also been very helpful by providing additional information for many of the images, correcting false information, adding geo-tagging, and linking the images to other image groups on the site.

The Architecture Library Lantern Slide Collection is extremely popular and has received over 225,000 hits since its inception in 2007 and averages approximately 8,000 views a month.
