Curriculum Vitae

John Mellor is a practicing architect in South Bend, Indiana, with 25+ years of experience. He owns and operates his own design firm specializing in small-scale residential and commercial design projects. John also consults with other architecture firms, design professionals, and government agencies, providing conceptual design and illustration services. He previously worked with Architecture Design Group, Inc. of South Bend as a project architect and designer. While there he directed the design, detailing, and construction of several significant projects at private schools, colleges, and universities including: the University of Notre Dame; Saint Mary’s College; Indiana University; and the Culver Academies.

John became an educator at Notre Dame in 2014, teaching in both the undergraduate and graduate architecture programs. In 2017 John was named one of the 25 Most Admired Educators by Design Intelligence Magazine. John has also been honored with the School of Architecture Educator of the Year award in 2016, 2017, and 2020.

John received both his Bachelor of Architecture (1995) and Master of Architectural Design and Urbanism (2010) from the University of Notre Dame. In 2010 John received the Leon Battista Alberti Award for academic excellence in the Notre Dame School of Architecture post-professional degree program. He is a licensed architect in the State of Indiana and a LEED Accredited Professional, and is an active member of the American Institute of Architects.
