Architectural Experience Program

The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) has an experience requirement that must be documented and completed before one can become a licensed architect. This requirement–time between fulfilling the education requirement and getting licensed–is referred to as an “architectural internship.” NCARB’s Architectural Experience Program (AXP) guides interns through this process and is the standard accepted means of completing the experience requirement in almost all U.S. jurisdictions. To learn about additional architectural registration requirements, see NCARB’s Studying Architecture,  AXP Guidelines, and Architect Registration Examination.

The School’s Architect Licensing Advisor is Professor John Mellor, who can be contacted at Please contact Prof. Mellor with any questions you have about earning AXP hours, passing the ARE, NCARB certification, and meeting your jurisdiction’s licensure requirements.
