Building Arts
The School of Architecture encourages undergraduate students, beginning in their fourth year, to participate in one of four concentrations: Furniture Design, Preservation and Restoration, Architectural Practice and Enterprise, and Building Arts. These concentrations develop specialized skills that benefit them in the workplace and beyond. Heather Reilly von Mering, B.Arch ’03, says, “Clients are always asking to have a piece of furniture to match their millwork. I use the construction methods (the Furniture Design Concentration) taught me in the design and development of built-in cabinetry and other custom pieces.”
